ICE deports Texas father to Ghana despite safety concerns
Original: ICE deported Texas dad to Ghana because home country was unsafe; Ghana sent him anyway | 60 Minutes
A Texas father was deported by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to Ghana after officials deemed his home country unsafe for return, according to a 60 Minutes report. Ghanaian authorities then sent him away as well, leaving his case drawing attention to deportation practices involving third countries and the treatment of migrants with no clear place to go.
Why now: The unusual outcome of being rejected by both the US destination country and Ghana has sparked debate over ICE's third-country deportation policies.
