ICE deported Texas father to Ghana despite safety concerns
Original: ICE deported Texas dad to Ghana because home country was unsafe; Ghana sent him anyway | 60 Minutes
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported a Texas father to Ghana after deeming his home country unsafe for return, only for Ghanaian authorities to send him onward, according to a 60 Minutes report. The case is drawing criticism of US deportation practices, including deportations to countries with which migrants have no ties, and renewed scrutiny of third-country removals.
Why now: The unusual chain of deportation to a third country highlights controversy over ICE's removal practices.
