Companies Hiring Robot-Dog Walkers at $20 an Hour
Original: Wanted: Robot-Dog Walkers. $20/Hour
The New York Times reports that robotics firms are advertising jobs paying around $20 an hour for people to walk robot dogs, accompanying the quadruped machines on outings in public spaces. The postings have drawn amused attention online, with commenters noting the irony of humans being employed to accompany robots doing a job associated with pets, and debating whether the roles involve testing, public relations or data collection.
Why now: The paradox of paying humans to walk robots rather than animals is a striking, shareable quirk of the robotics boom.
