EU tells countries to prepare for 3C of global warming
Original: EU tells countries to make plans to cope with 3C of global warming
The European Union has instructed member countries to draw up contingency plans for coping with global warming of around 3 degrees Celsius, a level well above the Paris Agreement targets. The directive signals growing concern in Brussels that current mitigation efforts may fall short, and that governments need adaptation strategies for severe heat, drought and other climate impacts.
Why now: The EU's request implies official doubts that climate targets will be met, which is alarming to many readers.
