EU tells countries to prepare for 3C of global warming
Original: EU tells countries to make plans to cope with 3C of global warming
The European Union has told member countries to draw up plans for coping with around 3 degrees Celsius of global warming, a level far above the Paris Agreement's targets. The instruction reflects growing concern that current mitigation efforts will fall short and that adaptation planning must now assume significantly hotter conditions.
Why now: The EU's shift from mitigation-focused messaging to adaptation planning signals official pessimism about meeting climate targets, prompting debate about preparedness.
