Churches Turn Unused Land Into Affordable Housing

Original: ‘Yes In God’s Backyard’: Churches Are Turning Their Land Into Affordable Housing

Churches across the United States are converting surplus land and parking lots into affordable housing, a movement dubbed 'Yes In God's Backyard'. Congregations facing declining membership and high maintenance costs are partnering with developers to build homes on their property, with coverage highlighting the approach as a creative response to housing shortages.

Why now: Housing affordability is a major concern, and the idea of religious institutions opening their land offers a novel, widely shareable solution.
