Churches Are Turning Their Land Into Affordable Housing

Original: ‘Yes In God’s Backyard’: Churches Are Turning Their Land Into Affordable Housing

Churches across the United States are converting unused land and parking lots into affordable housing, a trend dubbed 'Yes In God's Backyard'. Congregations partner with developers and local governments to build apartments on their properties, easing housing shortages while generating income for shrinking parishes. Supporters call it a natural fit for churches seeking to serve their communities.

Why now: Housing affordability is a pressing national issue, and the idea of houses of worship offering a new solution is gaining attention.
