The United Nations says it stands ready to keep supporting peace efforts in Western Sahara as the MINURSO mission ends. The UN stressed it remains committed to a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution that provides for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people, signalling continued diplomatic engagement despite the closure of the long-running peacekeeping operation.
Why now: The end of MINURSO, one of the UN's longest-running peacekeeping missions, marks a significant shift in the decades-old Western Sahara conflict.
