Meteorologist Climate Watcher Daniel Swain, posting as WeatherWest, flagged extreme rainfall affecting Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado, prompting concerns that election officials in those states may not have adequate plans to keep mail ballots dry and under continuous custody through the storms. Responding posts hope electoral authorities have safeguards in place, with some engagement online but no confirmed statements from the affected election offices so far.
Why now: Severe weather is coinciding with ongoing voting, raising worries about ballot protection in the Southwest.
