One hundred years ago, the German silent film 'Überflüssige Menschen' had its premiere in Berlin. The anniversary is being discussed alongside the question of what kind of character portrait the film drew, with a reference article on the concept of 'Charakterzeichnung' — character depiction — offering possible answers.
