Google to Cut Off Search for Schools Banning AI
Original: Google Will Disable Search for Schools Banning AI
Google has announced that K-12 schools restricting AI tools will lose student access to Google Search starting next year, under what is described as an all-or-nothing policy. The change could affect millions of classrooms that have banned AI in an effort to protect academic integrity. Critics are questioning whether the company is effectively forcing schools to adopt AI, while supporters see it as pushing education to adapt to new technology.
Why now: The policy is seen as coercive, forcing schools to choose between AI access and keeping Google Search for students.
