Hegseth calls for pitch competition for next US military base
Original: Hegseth calls for pitch-off for America's next base
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called for a pitch-off to determine the location of America's next military base, inviting competing proposals rather than choosing a site directly. The announcement is drawing attention in defense circles, with observers weighing which locations might compete and what the competitive process says about how the Pentagon plans future force posture.
Why now: A defense secretary publicly inviting a competition over a new base site is an unusual and consequential decision for US military posture.
