Bannon Praises Newsom as Presidential Material
Original: Bannon praises Newsom as president
Steve Bannon has praised Gavin Newsom, speaking of the California governor in presidential terms despite their opposing politics. The comments from Donald Trump's former chief strategist are drawing attention because Bannon rarely compliments Democratic figures, and Newsom is widely viewed as a likely 2028 presidential contender. Observers are debating whether the remarks reflect genuine admiration, an attempt to sow division among Democrats, or a warning about Newsom's crossover appeal.
Why now: An unusual compliment from a Trump ally to a potential Democratic presidential candidate is striking to political watchers.
