Bannon Praises Newsom as President
Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former chief strategist, has publicly praised Gavin Newsom, calling him presidential material. The remarks have drawn attention because Bannon and Newsom sit on opposite ends of the political spectrum, and Newsom is widely viewed as a potential Democratic presidential contender. Commenters are debating whether the praise is genuine admiration, an attempt to divide Democrats, or a warning to Trump's camp about a formidable rival.
Why now: An unlikely compliment from a top Trump ally to a likely Democratic presidential rival is striking and politically loaded.
