California Governor Gavin Newsom has approved rules allowing balcony solar installations, letting residents plug small solar panels into household outlets without full rooftop permitting. Supporters say the move opens affordable clean energy to renters and apartment dwellers, following the example set by Germany, where balcony solar has become widely popular.
Why now: It is a new policy making small-scale solar accessible to renters and apartment residents, drawing interest from clean energy communities.
