California Governor Gavin Newsom has approved rules allowing balcony solar installations, opening a low-cost renewable energy option for renters and apartment dwellers in the state. The move follows similar policies in countries like Germany, where plug-in balcony panels have become popular. Clean energy advocates are welcoming the change as a way to expand access to solar power.
Why now: The governor has just signed off on a policy that makes small-scale solar accessible to people without rooftops, a topic of interest to clean energy communities.
