Israeli officials invoke 'Israel's 9/11 stopped' after operation
Original: 'Israel's 9/11 stopped' and 'That was a great life'
Israeli leaders are using the phrase 'Israel's 9/11 stopped', echoing the October 7 attacks and suggesting a major threat to Israel has been averted. The accompanying remark 'That was a great life' reflects a mood of nostalgia and loss voiced alongside the claim that a repeat of that devastation was prevented. Reactions are split between relief and lingering grief over the deaths and displacement that followed the original assault.
Why now: The dramatic 9/11 comparison and claims that a threatened attack was stopped are drawing intense public attention and debate.
