City Colleges of Chicago faculty and staff set Oct. 19 strike date
Original: City Colleges of Chicago faculty, staff set Oct. 19 strike date
Faculty and staff at the City Colleges of Chicago have set an Oct. 19 strike date, signaling that contract negotiations with the community college system have not produced an agreement. The move puts thousands of students across Chicago's seven community colleges at risk of class disruptions unless a last-minute deal is reached, and labor watchers are watching how the dispute develops.
Why now: A looming faculty strike at a major urban college system threatens classes for thousands of students and reflects ongoing labor unrest.
