Pentagon creates Office of Religious Affairs under Hegseth
Original: Pentagon launches Office of Religious Affairs, will report directly to Hegseth
The Pentagon has launched a new Office of Religious Affairs that will report directly to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The move places religious affairs under the office of the defense secretary rather than a lower-level branch, drawing attention to the Pentagon's growing focus on faith-related matters within the military. Supporters see it as ensuring religious liberty for service members; critics worry about blurring church-state lines in the armed forces.
Why now: The new office's direct reporting line to Defense Secretary Hegseth raises questions about the role of religion in the military.
