Russia warns NATO of nuclear response over Baltic drills
Original: Russia Warns NATO of Nuclear Response Should Baltic Drills Move to Cut Off Kaliningrad
Russia has cautioned NATO that it could respond with nuclear weapons if alliance exercises in the Baltic region move toward cutting off Kaliningrad, Moscow's exclave between Poland and Lithuania. The warning underscores rising tensions around the heavily militarised territory, which depends on a narrow land and sea corridor to the rest of Russia.
Why now: Ongoing NATO military exercises in the Baltic region have reignited fears of escalation over the isolated Kaliningrad exclave.
