Russia warns NATO of nuclear response over Kaliningrad blockade threat
Original: Russia Warns NATO of Nuclear Response Should Baltic Drills Move to Cut Off Kaliningrad
Russian officials have warned NATO it could face a nuclear response if Baltic military exercises move toward cutting Kaliningrad off from the rest of Russia. The exclave, situated between Poland and Lithuania, hosts significant Russian military assets, and Moscow has long treated any disruption to its land access as a major escalation. The warning adds to rising tensions around NATO activity in the Baltic region.
Why now: Ongoing NATO drills in the Baltic region are raising fears of direct confrontation between Russia and the alliance.
