Tip jar request sparks talk about a Carlton pub near RMIT

A social media user says they were asked for a tip at The Lincoln, a pub near RMIT in Carlton, Melbourne. They describe the venue as formerly a downbeat bar with a low-key, high-quality menu out the back, pouring Guinness on tap alongside quality local wines at reasonable prices. The anecdote is prompting chatter among Melburnians about the pub's character and tipping expectations at Australian bars, where tipping is not customary.

Why now: Being asked for a tip at an Australian pub goes against local norms, making it a surprising and relatable talking point.
