Melbourne pub The Lincoln now asking patrons for tips

A patron says The Lincoln, a pub near RMIT in Carlton, Melbourne, asked for a tip at the counter. The venue was known as a low-key bar with a quality, reasonably priced menu, Guinness on tap and local wines. The request for tips has raised eyebrows, as tipping is not customary in Australian pubs and many see it as an unwelcome American import.

Why now: Tipping remains unusual in Australia, so a pub asking for one sparked discussion about changing hospitality norms.
