Original: Taiwan receives 2 long-delayed US F-16Vs and awaits additional fighter jets
Taiwan has taken delivery of two F-16V fighter jets from the United States after lengthy delays, with additional aircraft still expected under the arms sale program. The upgraded jets bolster Taiwan's air defenses amid ongoing tensions with China, which regularly sends warplanes near the island and opposes US arms sales to Taipei.
Why now: US arms deliveries to Taiwan are closely watched given rising China-Taiwan tensions.
