Waltz accuses Russia and China of killing Iran sanctions panel
Original: Waltz blasts Russia, China for killing Iran snapback sanctions panel at United Nations
Mike Waltz has publicly criticized Russia and China for blocking the United Nations panel responsible for enforcing snapback sanctions on Iran, effectively ending the mechanism that could automatically reimpose UN penalties over Tehran's nuclear programme. The accusation sharpens tensions among Security Council members over how to handle Iran and highlights the growing divide between Western powers and Moscow and Beijing on the issue.
Why now: Fresh diplomatic friction at the UN over Iran sanctions enforcement is drawing attention.
