Waltz accuses Russia and China of ending Iran sanctions panel
Original: Waltz blasts Russia, China for killing Iran snapback sanctions panel at United Nations
Mike Waltz criticized Russia and China at the United Nations, accusing them of killing the panel responsible for snapback sanctions on Iran. The snapback mechanism, part of the 2015 nuclear deal, allowed UN sanctions on Iran to be restored automatically if it violated the agreement. Waltz argued that Moscow and Beijing's move undermines international efforts to hold Tehran accountable for its nuclear program.
Why now: Ongoing diplomatic tensions over Iran's nuclear program and the fate of UN snapback sanctions.
