Ikea to close three small-format plan and order stores
Original: Ikea to shutter 3 small-format plan and order stores
Ikea will shutter three of its small-format plan and order stores, retail trade press reports. The format was part of the retailer's push into smaller urban locations offering planning services and order pickup rather than full warehouse showrooms. The move suggests Ikea is reassessing which of its experimental smaller formats can compete with its big-box stores and growing online business.
Why now: Ikea's retrenchment from an experimental store format signals a shift in its retail expansion strategy.
