Environmental reporting highlights that Europe's 'mega-industrial' trawlers—floating factories making up just one percent of the fishing fleet—catch more than half of the fish landed and cause the majority of environmental damage. The figures have sparked debate over industrial fishing's outsized impact on ocean ecosystems and whether EU fishing policy should rein in the largest vessels.

Why now: New reporting quantifying how a tiny share of Europe's fleet causes most of the environmental damage is drawing attention to industrial fishing practices.
