A new report warns that 'mega-industrial' trawlers—Europe's floating factories—are devastating marine ecosystems. The vessels represent just one percent of the EU fishing fleet but catch more than half of the fish and are responsible for the majority of environmental damage. Campaigners say the findings strengthen calls to curb industrial trawling and protect ocean biodiversity as climate pressures mount on European seas.
Why now: A new report linking a tiny share of Europe's fishing fleet to most of the environmental damage is drawing fresh attention to industrial trawling.
