Israel-bound flight diverted to Saudi Arabia after violent incident
Original: Israel-bound flight diverted to Saudi Arabia after ‘violent incident’
A passenger flight heading to Israel was diverted to Saudi Arabia after what officials described as a violent incident on board. The unscheduled landing in the kingdom, which has no formal diplomatic ties with Israel, has drawn wide attention, with questions about what happened during the flight and how the situation was handled.
Why now: The rare diversion of an Israel-bound plane to Saudi Arabia amid reports of violence on board is striking news given the two countries' lack of diplomatic relations.
