Colorado bears are eating porch pumpkins, wildlife officials warn
Original: Colorado’s bears are feasting on porch pumpkins this fall, CPW warns
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is warning residents that black bears are devouring the decorative pumpkins left on porches across the state this fall. Bears are in hyperphagia, eating heavily before winter hibernation, and easy food sources draw them into neighbourhoods. Officials are urging people to bring pumpkins indoors or remove them to avoid attracting bears.
Why now: It is autumn, bears are preparing for hibernation, and seasonal pumpkin displays are drawing wildlife into residential areas.
