Two American Airlines Flights Share the Same Flight Number
Original: Two American Airlines Flights End Up with the Same Flight Numbers
American Airlines is reported to have assigned the same flight number to two of its flights at the same time, an error aviation observers say has happened to the carrier before. Duplicate flight numbers can confuse passengers, crew scheduling and air traffic systems, and commenters are questioning how the airline's scheduling controls allowed the mistake to recur.
Why now: Airline scheduling errors draw attention because duplicate flight numbers are a basic operational mistake with safety and logistics implications.
