Putin Predicts EU Will 'Collapse on Its Own' at Valdai Forum
Original: "NO NEED, THEY'LL COLLAPSE ON THEIR OWN!" — Putin on the future of the EU at Valdai
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club, Vladimir Putin dismissed the idea that Russia needs to act against the European Union, saying there is 'no need — they'll collapse on their own.' The remarks, made during his annual address to the foreign policy forum, frame the EU as weakened by its own internal divisions and economic difficulties. The comment has drawn wide attention given ongoing tensions between Moscow and Europe over the war in Ukraine.
Why now: Putin's provocative claim about the EU's imminent collapse at a high-profile forum feeds debate over Europe's political and economic stability amid the Ukraine war.
