The United States and other major powers are competing to deploy nuclear reactors on the Moon, according to a New York Times report. The push is framed as both an energy solution for sustained lunar presence and a matter of geopolitical standing in the new space race, drawing attention to how nuclear power could shape claims over lunar territory and resources.
Why now: Renewed great-power competition over lunar exploration has made plans for Moon-based nuclear reactors a topical geopolitical story.
