The United States and rival powers are competing to deploy nuclear reactors on the Moon, according to a New York Times report. Space agencies view nuclear power as key to sustaining lunar bases, but the push is also framed as a geopolitical contest reminiscent of the original space race, raising questions about regulation, safety and claims over lunar resources.
Why now: A major report on a renewed space race with nuclear power touches on geopolitics, technology and lunar exploration all at once.
