Ethiopia's Growing Drone Fleet Draws Attention
Original: Ethiopia Collects "Drone Royal Flush" From Five Countries, But russian Orion May Actually Be Homegrown Negash
Ethiopia has assembled drones from five different countries, a mix defence observers describe as a "royal flush" of unmanned aircraft. One notable point of debate is whether an aircraft identified as a Russian Orion drone operating in Ethiopia is actually the Negash, a domestically developed Ethiopian design. The claim has fuelled discussion about how much of Ethiopia's drone programme is imported versus locally built, and what the fleet means for regional security in the Horn of Africa.
Why now: Debate over whether a Russian Orion drone in Ethiopia is actually the homegrown Negash design has drawn attention to the country's rapidly diversifying drone arsenal.
