Original: Louisiana immigration facility to hold families, minors who self-deport
A Louisiana immigration facility is set to hold families and minors who choose to self-deport, according to local reporting. The plan means children and their parents who opt to leave the United States voluntarily would be housed at the site during the process. Details on capacity, conditions, and when the arrangement will begin have not been made clear in the initial report.
Why now: The policy of detaining families and children who voluntarily agree to leave is a new and controversial development in US immigration enforcement.
