Benjamin Davis, a former senior official at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, says he was dismissed after highlighting hunger in Gaza and has launched an appeal against the decision. The allegation, reported by The Guardian, has drawn attention to UN internal handling of staff who speak out on the Gaza food crisis.

Why now: The claim that a UN official lost his job for raising the alarm on Gaza famine is a fresh flashpoint in ongoing debate over Gaza and the UN's response.
