Benjamin Davis, a former senior official at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, says he was dismissed last week for his work highlighting hunger in Gaza and has launched an appeal against the decision. The allegation has drawn attention to pressure within UN agencies over the famine situation in Gaza and how officials addressing it are treated.

Why now: Claims that a UN official was punished for speaking about hunger in Gaza are politically charged amid ongoing scrutiny of the famine there.
