Bear already using NorCal wildlife crossing before it opens
Original: NorCal wildlife crossing gets first bear sighting before opening
A black bear has been spotted using the new wildlife crossing in Northern California before the structure has officially opened. Trail monitoring captured the animal traversing the crossing, which is designed to let wildlife safely pass over or under a roadway. The early visit is being welcomed as a promising sign that local animals will adopt the corridor once it opens to reduce collisions and reconnect habitat.
Why now: The bear adopting the crossing before it even opened is a heartening early sign of success for the conservation project.
