New Jersey Urges Residents to Secure Garbage as Bear Foraging Season Begins
Original: Fish & Wildlife | Residents Urged to Properly Store Garbage and Remove Food Sources to Avoid Attracting Bears as Fall Foraging Season Begins
New Jersey's Fish & Wildlife is urging residents to properly store garbage and remove outdoor food sources to avoid attracting bears as the fall foraging season begins. Bears increase their food intake ahead of winter and are drawn to easily accessible trash, bird feeders and grills. Officials warn that bears conditioned to human food sources can become a safety risk and often have to be euthanized.
Why now: Fall foraging season has begun, prompting a timely public safety advisory from state wildlife officials.
