DNS root key rollover scheduled for October 11

Original: The keys to the Internet change on October 11. Are you ready?

Cloudflare has detailed the 2024 rollover of the DNS root zone KSK, the cryptographic key that underpins trust in the domain name system, set for October 11. The change affects DNS resolver operators, who must ensure their systems are updated to trust the new key, or risk resolution failures for users. Technical readers are debating whether software in use will handle the new key automatically.

Why now: The root key rollover is a rare, internet-wide infrastructure change that could break DNS resolution for unprepared operators.
