Police visit Canadian YouTuber who built camera tracking police cars
Original: Canadian YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to exclusively track police vehicles, gets a visit from police — officers visit his home to express privacy concerns
A Canadian YouTuber built a camera system similar to Flock's automated license plate readers, but pointed exclusively at police vehicles to track their movements. Officers subsequently visited his home to raise privacy concerns, reportedly arguing that anti-surveillance control policies could allow details of active investigations to reach criminals. The episode has drawn attention as an inversion of typical surveillance debates, with the person monitoring police rather than being monitored by them.
Why now: It reverses the usual surveillance dynamic, with police raising privacy concerns about a citizen tracking them.
