Canadian YouTuber tracked by police after building cop-car surveillance camera
Original: Canadian YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to exclusively track police vehicles, gets a visit from police — officers visit his home to express privacy concerns
A Canadian YouTuber built a license-plate-recognition camera, similar to Flock Safety systems, designed to track the movements of police vehicles. Officers later visited his home to raise privacy concerns, reportedly warning that anti-surveillance countermeasures could allow details of active investigations to reach criminals. The story is fueling debate over surveillance symmetry — whether police should be subject to the same mass tracking they deploy against the public.
Why now: The irony of police monitoring a citizen over a camera that monitors police is sparking discussion about surveillance and privacy double standards.
