German police investigate robot after alleged groping of teenager
Original: German police launch investigation after robot allegedly gropes teenage girl
German police have opened an investigation into an incident in which a robot is alleged to have groped a teenage girl. The case is drawing attention because it is an unusual test of how the law applies to machines and their operators, raising questions about liability, safety standards at public events, and accountability when automated systems physically harm people.
Why now: The bizarre nature of a robot being criminally investigated for sexual assault raises novel legal and ethical questions about machine accountability.
