German police investigate claims robot groped teenage girl
Original: German police launch investigation after robot allegedly gropes teenage girl
Police in Germany have opened an investigation after a teenage girl alleged that a robot groped her. The case, reported by CNN, raises questions about how the law handles physical contact by autonomous machines and who would bear responsibility — the operator, the manufacturer, or the machine itself. Commentators online are reacting with a mix of alarm and skepticism, noting the unusual legal territory such an allegation creates.
Why now: An alleged assault by a robot is unprecedented and raises unresolved questions about machine autonomy and legal responsibility.
