German police investigate alleged robot groping incident
Original: German police launch investigation after robot allegedly gropes teenage girl
German police have opened an investigation after a teenage girl reported that a robot touched her inappropriately. The case, reportedly involving a humanoid robot at a public event, is drawing attention to gaps in how the law handles machines as the cause of physical harm. Commenters are treating it with skepticism and dark humor, questioning whether a robot can commit an offense and who would be held responsible.
Why now: The unusual claim that a robot could be the subject of a sexual assault investigation is novel and raises questions about legal responsibility for autonomous machines.
