New dates rewrite the history of the Inca Empire
Original: Bonanza of new dates rewrites the history of the Inca
A bonanza of new radiocarbon dates is prompting researchers to revise the established timeline of the Inca Empire, suggesting key events in its rise and expansion may have occurred at different times than long believed. Scientists say the reworked chronology could reshape understanding of how quickly the Inca built their vast Andean state before the Spanish conquest.
Why now: New archaeological dating results challenge the accepted chronology of the Inca Empire, a topic of broad scientific and historical interest.
