Hegseth directs troops to pause operations to vote
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has directed US troops to pause operations in order to vote, a measure aimed at making sure service members are not prevented from casting ballots by duties or deployments. The order places voting access in focus and raises questions about how widely operations will be affected.
Why now: The Pentagon chief's voting directive is unusual and politically notable, prompting attention to military readiness around election time.
