Hegseth orders troops to pause operations to vote
Original: Hegseth directs troops to pause operations to vote
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has directed US troops to pause operations in order to vote. The order places voting ahead of routine military activity, drawing attention to how the Pentagon is handling troop participation in elections. The move is being discussed as an unusual directive for military operations and a signal of the administration's emphasis on servicemembers casting ballots.
Why now: It is an unusual Pentagon directive prioritizing voting over military operations, sparking debate about politicization of the military.
